Microsoft's Edge browser will soon put Adobe's Flash on a leash

It is no secret that Flash is on its way out - after all, it is almost a nightmare web security, not to mention the page load and performance problems that can cause - and Microsoft is accelerating its demise with plans Flash put on a leash, making it easier for users to control the Edge browser.

Edge is, of course, the new web browser Microsoft built for Windows 10, and feature flash-dressage will be added in updating anniversary, scheduled for later this summer (extensions are also coming to Edge this update, after recently launched in preview builds).

As Redmond noted in a blog, the company wants to give users more control over Edge resources that Flash engulfs, so the browser will make an intelligent and automatic pause any Flash content, which is not central the web page being viewed.

Frozen Flash

In other words, a Flash video hosted or central game on the page works as normal, but things scattered on the sides, or around and around, as Flash ads, is loaded by default in a frozen state. If you want to play with them, you can click and it will resume all.

Microsoft is not only thinking about the overall safety and performance here, but also preserving battery power the likes of convertibles and tablets running Windows 10.

In the blog post announcing the move, Microsoft said: ". We encourage the community to continue the transition web Flash and to open web standards"

Even Adobe flash distanced itself from the end of last year, and recognised that content creators should use modern web standards these days.

This week we've also seen a great vulnerability Flash pop-up (again), underscoring the security risks that are regularly hitting doors Adobe.
